Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat sent a condolence letter to the family of Maran Rav Elyashiv ZTV”KL as they got up from shiva. In his letter sent via Avraham Kroizer, the mayor tells Rabbi Yosef Efrati that he too mourns along with the nation over the great loss felt resulting from the petira of the rav zt”l.
“We have lost a great individual that had a profound influence on Jerusalem in particular as well as the entire Israeli society.”
The mayor added that now, he hopes that the time will come when a decision can be made as to how the rav’s memory can be appropriately perpetuated in Yerushalayim, and concludes by asking Rabbi Efrati to send his sincere condolences to the family.

shuuuure… this is the mayor, that upon his election, a large headline in the freie paper said “להחזיר את ירושלים לחילונים” (return Yerushalaim to the freie)
The best way to perpetuate Rav Eliyashiv zatzal’s memory would be for Barkat to become shomer Torah u’mitzvos and stop the chillul Shabbos in Yerushalayim.
What he means is that they will name a street after him. To a chiloni that is the ultimate honor the city can bestow.
i see we’re all in agreement here – Moshiach’s coming !
