Bezeq is suing the national government for 61.7 million NIS for damages resulting from the 2005 Disengagement Plan, the expulsion of Jews from Gaza and a number of northern Shomron communities.
The suit filed earlier in the week in a district court states that the government decided to implement the Disengagement Plan and as a result, Bezeq was compelled to leave a great deal of equipment and infrastructure behind, valued at tens of millions of NIS. The communications company is now seeking to have the court order the government to make compensatory payment for this lost equipment and infrastructure.
The suit also cites the damages resulting from the government policy decision since the company invested hefty sums in establishing infrastructure in those areas and there was no pay back since the areas were abandoned by Israel. Therefore, the lawsuit also calculates loss of profits as a result of the disengagement.
Bezeq attorneys explain the government compelled the phone company to continue providing service to the areas mentioned until the very last moment and as a result of logistical realities, the phone company cut service at the very last moment but it was simply too late to arrange to remove the equipment and infrastructure, that was left behind.

Interesting to know why Bezeq waited seven years [!] to bring this up. Were they expecting the gov’t to pay them without suing? Were they hoping the expulsion would be a “success,” & only after it turned out to be the disaster that it is, did they decide to sue??? We’ll probably never know!
