Foreign Ministry officials are working to get an accurate picture of the situation in Burgas Bulgaria following the terrorist attack against an Israeli group that arrived at about 17:00 local time on Wednesday.
Israel Radio reports 3 persons have been killed. Ichud Hatzalah reports the death toll at 5 and Haaretz reports 7. It appears there are tens of people wounded as the group was large enough to require a number of buses.
It should be pointed out that the identities and nationality of the fatalities are unknown at this time.
According to Bulgarian media reports, about 18 people were wounded and are being treated in a local hospital. Foreign Ministry officials in Israel report that MDA personnel are preparing for a flight to that country to assist caring for the wounded.
Israeli media reports add that the CIA has recently issued a terror warning citing the high probability of an attack in that area.
Chabad shaliach in Bulgaria Rav Yosef Solomon was interviewed by Israel Radio. He explains police have closed the area down. He confirms that attack did take place inside the airport. The rabbi’s information was vague. Most of the Israelis are still locked in the terminal at present, waiting for local security officials to give them a green light to exit.
Israeli Ambassador to Bulgaria is on his way to the airport as is the Bulgarian Foreign Minsiter
Gad Hellerman, an Israeli tour guide in Burgas reports the attack was a bomb, not gunfire. He adds the flight landed in Burgas at 16:45 and the group was from the
Kavei Chufsha Company. The Foreign Ministry Situation Room information number is 02-530-3155
