Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, in his capacity as head of the Yisrael Beitenu Party announced on Monday, that his party will oppose any and all bills, even a government-sponsored bill, that does not call for drafting all Israeli male citizens into the IDF or an approved national service at the age of 18.

Lieberman explained that any zigzag in proposed legislation seeking to delay one’s entry into a national service or the IDF is unacceptable and his party is unwilling to entertain such legislation, remaining true to its election campaign pledge.

  1. Can someone pls explain to me how this works. First the supreme court rules that a bill that was extended for over 50 years is illegal. The tal law was not extended and will expire aug 1. Meanwhile the plesner committee was formed to come out with a replacement law. Almost every memeber quits and Kadima threatens to quit coalition. The PM and Mofaz appoints a new committe of only two MKs and will soon come out with the final solution (no pun intended). Will this new solution need to be voted by the kenesset? if so the above article is great news… potentially.
