A docking cruise ship on Manhattan’s West Side caused a bit of a stir Sunday when a wake jostled an exhibit at the nearby Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. Museum officials say a gangway to the retired Growler Submarine was damaged by a wave from a docking Norwegian Cruise Line ship around 7:30 a.m.
Norwegian released a statement saying strong current conditions forced an officer to use the ship’s propulsion and thrusters which created a wake in the surrounding waters.
None of the passengers was injured but some say they could tell something was wrong.
Museum officials say the cruise ship’s wake didn’t cause any damage to the Intrepid itself.
