In his motzei shabbos shiur Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita addressed the snowballing momentum to pull avreichim out of beis medrash to serve in the IDF. R’ Ovadia warned of the worrisome situation, adding that without the limud, the ongoing learning of those dedicated to the torah way of live we will lose the merit which keeps us going.
“We are surrounded by those who hate us including Iran and Hizbullah. Who will save us if not the torah?” והגית בו יומם ולילה and this is what keeps Am Yisrael going. HKBH watches out for us as a result of the merit of studying torah.
“There, if the number of those laboring over torah is diminished we are in big trouble”.
The gadol hador called for increased torah study, adding that beginning today, 18 Tammuz, the fast day, yeshivos should include Avinu Malkeinu in davening after shachris and mincha.
The rav made a passionate appeal to yidden outside of Eretz Yisrael as well. “I am turning to our brethren in the Diaspora. We are all responsible for one another. Please, join out tefilos and recite Avinu Malkeinu too, after both shachris and mincha. Daven to HKBH to remove this harsh gezeira.
“All eyes are on you” he stated in his appeal to roshei yeshivos around the country, calling upon them to cancel the bein hazmanim vacation. “Learn more torah and study more and HKBH will do his share from above as well” the rav added.
Rav Ovadia added “we have the power and for those who truly feel the pain, they will act for without torah there is no life. עת צרה היא ליעקב וממנה יוושע, וישועת ה’ כהרף עין.

Curious, Is your shul / yeshiva doing this or is it just happening in the sefardi shuls?
With all respect to Rav Ovadia Shlita, the major reason why the chilonim are upset and are instigating to draft charedim into the IDF is that the yeshivas and other mosdos receive financial assistance from the State of Israel, should all Mosdos forgive on the Financial assistance and stop participating in the Elections, they will have no reason to draft chareidim, the are many many wealthy yiden in the US, Europe and all over the Globe who could easy fill the gap to cover the budget off all Mosdos, Just look at Satmar mosdos (and the Mosdos who follow Satmar shita)

Do you really think for 1 minute that if the chareidim stopped taking $$$ from the government, then the chilonim would drop the whole draft issue?
I think that’s a fantasy.
I’m sure the kollel yungerleit are thrilled about losing their bein ha’zmnim vacation break because the Knesset is considering some type of public service requirement. Many had travel plans that will now be interrupted. Perhaps Rav Ovadia could sit and meet with the political leadership of Kadima and seek out some compromise on this issue which is proving very divisive with EY. He is a highly respected leader and in the past has shown himself to be a shrewd and creative political operative as well as a great talmid chacham.

Is there another job in the world where you get 6 weeks vacation? Why do the avreichim need so much time off? This is a matter of pikuach nefesh, I dont think you are understanding the seriousness of the situation.
To me that is part of the problem. Limud Hatorah should never be any less strenuos or serious as a regular job. That means no 6 week vacations in summer, then another month for pessach, another week for sukkas. If we are not machshiv the occupation of a ben-torah, then why should the outsiders be machshiv it?
