Kadima leader Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz is giving Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu until Monday, to announce his acceptance of MK Yochanan Plesner’s recommendations for a chareidi draft law or he will break away from the coalition government, MK (Kadima) Meir Sheetrit told Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) on Thursday morning 15 Tammuz.
Sheetrit explained that the message is clear and the issue of a chareidi draft is unavoidable and the prime minister must accept the recommendations as they were announced or realize Kadima will leave the coalition and elections will be the only alternative. Sheetrit explained that if the coalition is not going to make good on its commitment to pass a new draft law there is no reason for Kadima to remain in the coalition.
Not wishing to disappoint those who follow the media spin surrounding the draft law issue, persons close to Mofaz told the media on Thursday that the party leader will not be holding Netanyahu to the Monday deadline for Mofaz is genuine in his desire to get a new draft law pushed through, a law that is premised on the recommendations announced by Plesner.
Different media sources continue to release contradictory dates and deadlines regarding a Kadima ultimatum. What remains certain is that for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his coalition government, time is running out.
