According to officials in the IDF’s Personnel Branch, every second person evades the draft and by 2020, 60% of eligible Israelis will avoid serving in the IDF.
YWN-ISRAEL reported there are different numbers being released by different government agencies, and according to the experts, or those whom we believe should and do know, there are many eligible persons not entering the IDF, including chareidim.
According to the statistics released by the IDF at the end of 2011, among eligible draft age persons 1 in four males does not serve. 13% of the men not entering the military declare torah study as their profession. The others, 12%, don’t serve due to other reasons, including health (6.3%). Regarding women, 40.9% of the total eligible female population does not serve, 35% because of religious reasons. The IDF expresses concern over the “troublesome statistics”, especially with a look into the future.
There are currently 2,000 chareidim serving today in various units, units designed to cater to a chareidi lifestyle such as the air force’s Shachar program, which was established in 2007 and intended for males ages 22-26. Most of the Shachar soldiers are married and many have children.
There is also the Netzach Yehuda (Nachal Chareidi) Division, which operates as part of the Kfir Brigade. About 500 chareidim and dati leumi inductees join Nachal Chareidi annually.
About 8,500 chareidim do not enter the military each year, and the army insists each can find a suitable place if so desired.
Leading in the number of eligible candidates who enlist annually is Modi’in/Maccabim-Reut with 64.9%. Tel Aviv ranks 52nd among the major cities with 47% and Bnei Brak takes last place with 15.8%.

Im not a mathemetician but even i can figure out that the numbers don’t add up. “every second Person” = 50%. One out of every four males =25% and 40% of women averages out to 32% of all eligible people don’t serve. Clearly this is a propaganda article to make more people hav eisues with the chareidim I apprecite you posting it.
If 25% of the men and 40.9% of the women don’t serve, then how do you get to your statement that “every second person evades the draft” i.e., that 50% don’t serve?
