While Plesner Committee members try to arrive at final decisions as to the recommendation that will be present to the cabinet regarding the nation’s new draft law for Jews, some residents of Meah Shearim decided to take to the streets with another type of message.
Dozens of protestors from the Batei Warsaw neighborhood protested with signs that they will go to prison before entering the IDF. This is no chiddush as the residents of the area regularly hang signs stating that entering the IDF is a matter of יהרג ואל יעבור, a matter that leaves no room for compromise.
Nevertheless, while the chareidi momentum against a draft seems to be gaining momentum, government officials are moving forward and it appears a matter of days until the recommendations of the committee will be publicized, detailing some form of draft to military and national service for the chareidi tzibur.
Protestors explained they would gladly prefer living as Jews in prison than sacrificing their beliefs by joining the IDF.

Given that Neturei Karta routinely is in communications with the Muslim states with Israel is at war, it is unlikely that the Israelis (absent a death wish) would attempt to conscript them. In addition, their refusal to accept money from the zionists means they can’t be threatened with loss of funding. This sounds like a publicity stunt to encourage mainstream Hareidim to stand up to the zionists.
