FOUND! 1947 Photograph of Klausenberger Rebbe’s Talmidim by R. Yair Hoffman

by Rabbi Yair Hoffman for the Five Towns Jewish Times

The Klausenberger Rebbe zatzal was a remarkable individual who started a Yeshiva in Williamsburg called, “Sheiris HaPleitah” – for those young men who had lost everything in the holocaust. People came to hear him in the DP camps,a nd they learned with him when the boat strike occurred at Bremen Harbor. Indeed, even on the boat ride from Bremen Harbor to New York City – he recruited people to come to his Yeshiva. The Klausenberger Rebbe helped rebuild a lost world.

In the above photograph taken in 1946 or close to it- there are 27 young men – many of whom ended up earning in the Yeshiva on South Fifth Street in Williamsburg. They are numbered and research is being done to identify who they are, and what happened to them.
