Jack Abramoff is continuing his quest to get control of the website bearing his name, calling in a third party to try and force House Democrats to give it back.
But the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which owns the rights to the domain name www.jackabramoff.com, has no intentions of giving it up.
Abramoff, a one-time K Street superstar who served three-and-a-half years in prison following his 2006 guilty pleas on fraud, conspiracy and corruption charges, has re-emerged as a government reformer. Since an appearance on on “60 Minutes” last November, Abramoff has pushed his book “Capitol Punishment: The Hard Truth About Washington Corruption From America’s Most Notorious Lobbyist.”
In a filing with an arbitration organization, Abramoff said he “currently intends to use his trademark/service mark, Jack Abramoff, in the future for entertainment and media projects, as well as authoring books.” That book was billed as a true story about the scandal that took down Abramoff and rocked official Washington. “The name Jack Abramoff is synonymous with Washington scandal, but the fascinating facts of his case are either largely unknown or wildly misunderstood,” the book’s publisher asserted.
Abramoff’s round of TV interviews and public appearances, including one to campaign watchdog groups that used to vilify him, made a big splash, although the next step for the one-time GOP power broker is unclear. Abramoff, though, claims the DCCC is unfairly interfering with his future plans.
“Am I the only one who finds it ironic that this group spent years accusing me of using my insider power to paper over law breaking, and now they are doing the same?”
Abramoff said in a statement to POLITICO. “As notorious identity thieves, spending Democratic Party donors’ contributions on a powerful Washington law firm to obfuscate the clear rules of the Internet, they should be ashamed.”
Abramoff has been in hot pursuit to get his domain name back since last fall when he called the DCCC personally to ask for it. Now Abramoff has filed a complaint against the DCCC with the National Arbitration Forum. The party committee has until June 27 to reply with its own information and then a three-person panel will review the case.
“They are wrong to have stolen my name and they know it,” Abramoff said. “They responded to my amicable and non-threatening efforts to work out a solution with recalcitrance and renitent haughtiness. I am confident in my position and am despondent that these politicasters sadly represent the lack of comity infecting our body politic.”
Democrats, though, scoffed at Abramoff’s new public persona and signaled they would fight any attempt to give up the domain name.

Interesting legal case under trademark law.
Of course, who remembers who Jack Abramoff was? He’s now an historical figure. Americans (unlike Israelis) have very short memories.
feel bad for you Jack, but when things get our of control, they get hard to manage. Good luck turning your life around.
