1. Actually, it will have a negative impact on all hilonim, both as to their ability to control the army, and in turn, the Medinah. At the point where most of the people where guns are frum (regardless of what type of yarmulke they wear), it will be hard to prevent them from taking over the country. Even if the media and courts try to manipulate things to keep power, they’ll be facing down the barrel of the guns.

3. #1, Are you suggesting that religious soldiers would ch”v threaten violence against their secular fellow Jews? This is a libelous accusation, even if you somehow meant it as a sort of twisted compliment.

4. akuperma, it may be your warped dream to turn “our” guns on those bugaboos, the media and the courts, but your insinuation gives the non-religious good reason to bar all kippa-wearers from the IDF right now.

5. There is nothing wrong in the use of violence. The entire authority of a state rests on its ability to use violence. The power of a Beit Din is its right to use violence.

   Over the years violence has been used and is still being used to suppress the Torah community in Israel. Some of the violence is legitimate state actions to enforce the laws of the state but most of it is illegal violence sanctioned by the state. Even in the People’s Bolshevistic Republic of Palestine (aka The State of Israel) there are laws limiting and controlling the actions of the police and the military. These are officially disregarded when dealing with Torah Jews.

   In the near future when the Torah community will control both the police and the military, this well established precedent will no doubt be remembered and relied upon.

6. #3- it seems they already are — whether to engage in open resistance is already being widely debated — right now the only “hot” topic involves evicting Jews from the places like Gush Katif or Ulpana – but wait until the time comes to evict “settlers” from Kiriyat Arba and East Jerusalem (all of which is considered to be illegally occupied territory under international law).

   While at present they can rely on trumped up charges (think if Aryeh Deri) or bribery (think of Mafdal of 40 years) to deal with religious politicians who don’t know their place – but once conscription of Bnei Torah becomes common, the glass ceiling will smash. If you think the secular zionists will willingly give up control, you are being naive. They will do everything possible to keep Israel secular.

7. Aryeh and Akuperma, I’ll almost bet that you wouldn’t eat an ice cream sandwich without consulting high rabbinical authorities on what bracha to make. So by whose authority do you encourage bloodshed among more than five million Jews in Eretz Yisrael to overturn a state that isn’t constituted by your vindictive version of Torah?

8. Naftush, the authority is that of the Shulchan Aruch and all poskim. When Jews are being attacked and one is able to defend them, one must do so. Lo sa’amod al dam re’echo. And it makes no difference whether the attackers are Jews or Arabs.
