This upcoming Elul, Monsey will find itself with one more top notch yeshiva for boys graduating mesivta going into first year beis medrash. Rav Yoni Friedberg will be opening Yeshivas Ner Dovid after months of preparation and anticipation.
Rav Friedberg learned in Brisk for almost fifteen years, and was privileged to a close relationship with the Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Avraham Yehoshua Soloveitchik. Yeshivas Ner Dovid itself will be cultivated with a strong brisker derech, alongside a positive, upbeat, and warm environment. “We want to make it geshmake for the boys”, one staff member said. Rav Friedberg also has ten years of experience running the summer yeshiva, Aberei Lev, up in the Poconos, where many bochrim metzuyanim, mostly from the Fallsburg Yeshiva, spent their summers learning. He was also a Rebbe in the beis medrash of Yeshivas Shaarai Torah in Monsey for almost two years.
The new Yeshiva will have an extremely chashuve staff, including Rabbi Chaim Rubin of Lakewood, who learned in Passaic under Rav Meir Stern before going to Brisk. He now gives chaburas in the Lakewood Mesivta. Rav Ahron Mashitz has also joined the staff. Rav Mashitz is a Rebbi in Yeshivas Ohr haChaim in Queens, and was also a talmid of Rav Meir Stern. Rav Shammai Einstader, another staff member, learned in the Riverdale Yeshiva before going to Brisk. Together, they are a true brisker staff whom will work well with the bochrim.
The Yeshiva is named after Rav Friedberg’s late grandfather, Mr. David Harris, who was nifter around one month ago. At his recently commemorated shloshim, one guest remarked that even though Mr. Harris was not a brisker, but a true American, he’d surely appreciate the ehrlechkeit and learning of Brisk.
With the opening of the Yeshiva only a few months away, the staff is working hard to ensure everything is ready and in place for the bochrim.
