Republican Senator David Storobin Will Run for Reelection Against Democrat Simcha Felder

YWN has confirmed that newly elected Republican State Senator David Storobin will be running for re-election this November in the so-called “Super-Jewish” seat. Senator Storobin will be running on the Republican and Conservative lines. Deputy Comptroller Simcha Felder is expected to win the Democratic nomination. That will likely set up a colossal battle between Felder – a popular Orthodox Jewish public official – and Storobin – a rising Jewish Republican star.

This is a dramatic turn of events in regards to the controversial “Super-Jewish” Senate seat. Insiders have been speculating for weeks that Republican Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos would clear the way for Mr. Felder to run so that Felder would be enticed to caucus with the Republican Majority. However, YWN’s exclusive sources confirm that despite being encouraged to run for New York State Assembly, Mr. Storobin stood firm in his desire to run for re-election and will have the full support of the Republican and Conservative Parties.

All the same, some analysts believe that Mr. Storobin is running an uphill battle against the popular Felder – a former New York City Councilman. “Simcha has more money, name recognition and a proven track record of delivering for the community,” said one strategist who pointed to the fact the Felder already has $500,000 in the bank. Those loyal to Storobin, however, point to the fact that his most recent challenger – Lew Fidler – had all of those advantages and lost, albeit by 13 votes to Senator Storobin. They also point to the advantage that Storobin has as an incumbent Senator. “The frum community is sophisticated. They want a Senator that can deliver. Storobin is a sitting Senator in the Republican party that controls the Senate. Why would they want to dump him for a Democrat in the minority?” asked our source rhetorically.

  1. Ooh. This is a tough one. On the one hand EVERYBODY needs Simcha. On the other hand Storobin is a solid Republican in the majority. I really don’t know who I would vote for.

  2. I think Simcha will win but I am happy he is getting a challenge. I feel like he was out of touch with the community by leaving to take a $200k job with the City only days after he was re-elected. I hope Simcha wins and that this challenge bring his back to the people.

  3. There is no shayla. Harav Belsky and other gedolim have said it is a MITZVAH to vote for Storobin. Besides, we don’t need a liberal Democrat in the Senate. We need a conservative Republican. A vote for Felder is a vote for the party that brought us toeiva. VOTE STOROBIN!

  4. I think we need change. I’m sick of the establishment telling me what to do. I will vote for Storobin. Give somone new a chance.

  5. I liked Simcha until he sold out to Bloomberg. He caved on congestion pricing and was THE guy who helped Bloomie overturn term limits. I blame Simcha for Bloomie III.

  6. Will Felder break with his party and come against abortion and homosexuality – and if he does, what influence will he have with the rest of the Democrats?

  7. I for one going to vote for david. There are some russians in this new district. Plus, a lot of frum gonna vote for romney so they may stay gop.this will be close…but david has a track record of winning close races by now. Srry simcha, to me. Your just part of the dem liberal machine

  8. Felder is a bloomberg patsy. NY doesn’t need him. NY needs people with strong conservative political values so that Cuomo doesn’t turn NY into an Illinois or Mexifornia.

  9. Ferd, R’ Belsky said to vote for Strobin in the Fidler race. However this is a new race and I put money$$$ down that R’ Belsky will endorse Simcha. Get the facts straight. We are in June !!!!!

  10. I will absolutely vote for David. Felder has done nothing to lower tuition, he voted to raise taxes, water rates, voerturn term limits and SPONSORED that bill and that fled to a better paying job with John Liu, now Liu is down so he is looking to leave. I am tired of the establishment telling us who to vote for, since they benefit $$$ from this. Greenfield told us to vote for Fidler, Hikind told us to vote for Lander did it matter not at all. David has my vote, Felder should not be so confidant.

  11. Do you real think that Rav belsky will tell you to vote for non orthodox jew, when the other option is not fidler, but a REAL othordox jew????
Simcha already said that he will cacus with the Republicans, so why are you painting simcha as a librel democrat??? Our community is much smarter then that!!!

  12. Gibor, if the tax burden weren’t so high, particularly the school tax from which we get very little, then we wouldn’t need the programs! לא מדובשך ולא מעוקצך
