The Flatbush Shomrim Patrol is grateful for the dedicated law enforcement professionals who made two prompt arrests in connection with a violent Shabbos morning attack against a man on his way to shul.
The brazen attack took place at the corner of Avenue L and Coney Island Avenue on June 2nd, at approximately 5:30 a.m. On his way to an early minyan, the community member was suddenly surrounded by several individuals, one of whom displayed a firearm and demanded money from the victim.
The victim explained that on Saturday he is not allowed to carry anything, especially money, because of Shabbos. A second individual then got upset and assaulted the victim until he fell to the ground. An early morning stroller who witnessed the commotion started to yell from across the street making the assailants take off.
Uniformed officers from the 70th precinct responded to the scene and conducted a canvass of the area, which yielded no trace of the perpetrators. Detective Sal Zambito of the 70th precinct wasted no time in starting his investigation and was determined to find the perpetrators.
After less than a week of intensive investigation, Detective Zambito located three suspects wanted for this violent crime and conducted a line-up at the station. The victim and a witness made a positive identification on two out of the three, including the perpetrator with the handgun.
Chaim Deutsch, founder of the Flatbush Shomrim thanked Deputy Inspector Eric Rodriquez, Commanding Officer of the 70th precinct, Lieutenant Chris Minogue, Commanding Officer of the 70th precinct Detective Squad, Brooklyn South Warrants and in particular congratulated Detective Zambito for his determination and swift action to put those responsible behind bars.
The perpetrators face charges of robbery in the 1st degree, assault in the 1st degree, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, petit larceny and harassment.

Congrats to Detective Zambito. We owe you our gratitude.
They’ll get a slap on wrist of two months in jail. Mark my words. The NY judicial joke will play out once again. . .
… and Boruch H-shem, Thank G-d!
It happened @ approximately 4:30 A.M. as the Vasikin Minyan started around 4:42 A.M. on Shabbos Parshas Naso & not @ 5:30 A.M. like the article says.
I would like to commend the Chaim Deutsch & the Flatbush Shomrim Patrol for doing a great job along with the 70th Precint for catching these suspects. Also please note that just because they put the wrong time of the crime in the article the rest of the Article is correct.
I am in agreement with Yossi. Much thanks to Detective Zambito for his relentless pursuit of these animals. Too often these violent acts fall on deaf ears. Myself and my friends are so pleased to learn of this mans dedication to his job. He is a hero is my eyes.
