Forbes Israel addresses the rabbinical dynasties in Eretz Yisrael; an enterprise which it states “turns billions of NIS annually”.
Leading the list is the Abuchatzera family. HaRav Pinchas Abuchatzera, 36, the great-grandson of Baba Sali has an estimated worth of 1.3 billion NIS, most coming from the inheritance from his father Rav Elazar who was murdered last year.
His uncle, Rav David Abuchatzera, 70, is listed with assets of 750 million NIS followed by the Gerrer Rebbe, 73, with 350 million NIS.
In fourth place is the Belzer Rebbe Shlita, 65, listed with 180 million NIS; fifth place is Rav Nir Ben-Artzi with a modest 100 million NIS.
Sixth place goes to Rav Yaakov Effergan (The Rentgan), 46, with 90 million NIS and in seventh place is Rav Yeshayahu Pinto, 38, with 75 million NIS.

Interesting no litvaks on the list. Also dissapointed lubavitch didnt make the top 6
So why are all the meshulachim flying to America?
Since when is the Rabbanus supposed to be a for-profit enterprise??? What happened to the “Darko shel Torah”, described as bread with salt, water, and sleeping on the ground? I don’t ask that Rabbonim in today’s time fulfil this Mishna literally, but the numbers above are a bit “mugzam”.
an Israeli Yid
Litvaks excel in Talmud Torah. Others in ashirus. Litvaks come ahead because they take their Torah along after 120. Ashirus stays behind.
Let’s all be Litvaks!
The article is misleading–it says turnsover–ie, they receive and distribute that much.
I don’t see many Rabbonim with lavish lifestyles.
Litvishe Rabbonim (roshei yeshivos) generally funnel their money through the mosad. It would be curious to have the mosdos in the list–Mir, Ponavesh, etc.
Lubavitch is too fractured–each mosad runs their own independent show; almost like franchises.
It seems that these statistice of wealth do not really represent only personal wealth, but also the value of the real estate (i.e. shuls, yeshivas etc.) controlled by them. As such these numbers are very misleading if not out and out falsehoods.
To paraphrase Mark Twain, “There are three types of lies: Lies, big lies, and statistics.:
Why is anyone taking this list seriously? It is invented from the whole of cloth. There isn’t even the slightest accuracy to it. The dollar figures were simply invented by the magazine to sell issues.
Aside, that none of these rabbonim take money for themselves. It is their mosod that gets donations for tzedaka for the poor.
I remember when a great Rabbi past away in Israel, the previus Satmer Rebbe Rabeinu Yoel was told that he left 400.000.00 in the bank. For 3 days he couldnt come to himself, why didnt he give all the money for tzdoko??
especialy in israel that time was the matzav not so good
The article is misleading the Forbes claims that the numbers are estimated.
The Gerrer Rebbe’s wealth is inherited from his father zt”l, who was a successful businessman, and his zeide zt”l, who bought real estate in central Yerusholayim in the 1920s when it was relatively cheap.
#4, you are an ignorant fool. there are plenty of chassidim who excel in Torah and plenty of Litvishe who excel in Torah. Stop being such a divider
The Sanzer Rebbe is richer than most of those mentioned but he didn’t even make the list. The Sanz-Klausenberg own most of the prime real estate in Netanya.
Has YWN stooped to the level of The Enquirer?
