Bill Clinton is one of President Obama’s highest profile political supporters and said in New York Monday that Romney as president would be “calamitous for our country and the world.”
But in an interview with CNN Thursday, Clinton talked up Romney’s business credentials by saying the former Bain Capital exec had a “sterling business career.”
This mixed message is indicative of Clinton’s support for Wall Street during his own presidency and how he is closer to them than Obama, according to Politico’s Roger Simon.
The Obama campaign has been attacking Romney’s record as a job creator and business manager. According to Simon, Clinton being Clinton in front of the cameras hurts Obama’s campaign, and he is best used as a strategic fundraiser.
