MK (Ichud HaLeumi) Prof. Aryeh Eldad visited Israel’s southern border on Sunday, along with other members of the Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee. The committee members were shown the ongoing work; the construction of the physical barrier which is hoped will stop or at the very least significantly curtail infiltrations into Israel.
Eldad told the press “the engineering masterpiece is impressive but it too will fail to stop the wave of infiltrations if the IDF does not receive written orders from the political echelon signed by the attorney general instructing them to fire at anyone crossing the border illegally.
Anyone that succeeds in getting in must be immediately imprisoned until deported, even if it takes years”. Eldad stated this is the only way to bring a halt to the alarming trend.
In a related matter, Interior Minister Eli Yishai met with Eritrean Ambassador to Israel Tesfamariam Tekeste to discuss the illegal alien problem.
The issue of illegals from Sudan and Eritrea has become a national police priority as illegals from these countries are linked to a sharp increase in thefts, muggings, violent assaults against women and other violent acts, primarily in Tel Aviv.
