Six Asra Kadisha suspects who were arrested on Wednesday, during a protest against ongoing construction near Tzalmon Junction in the Nachal I’ron area of northern Israel, remain in custody today, Thursday. On Thursday morning police called on the court to extend their remand.
The ongoing construction towards building a new area bridge is the focus of the protests since Asra Kadisha insists that the work is not being supervised to ensure kevarim are involved as the law demands.
The suspects in custody arrived on Wednesday afternoon and did their best to interfere with ongoing construction.
It appears police suspect the suspects may be connected to the recent attack against an ancient shul in Tiveria. Asra Kadisha officials deny any connection between the suspects and the attack that resulted in over 1 million NIS in damage to the site.
Frustrating police efforts is the fact the suspects are not speaking, opting to remain silent rather than cooperate.
