New York State Governor Cuomo insisted Tuesday that passing a minimum wage hike this year would be tougher than getting gay marriage or pension reform through the Legislature.
He’s come under fire from liberals for not pushing GOPers hard enough for a minimum wage hike after expending political capital on the other issues.
But Cuomo said the philosophical divide on bumping the minimum wage from $7.25 per hour to $8.50 is likely too big to breach.

But with millions of people still employed, how will New York keeps its unemployment insurance program growing without doing something to get new people into the system. Raising the minimum wage, especially during a recession (as optimists call it) is the proven way to keep people unemployed. If too many people get jobs, they’ll want lower taxes, and that will hurt the Democrats agenda.
Akuperma, I’m actually pleasantly surprised that Cuomo seems to get this. On the whole he’s proved not nearly so bad a governor as I’d expected.
