“Today’s chareidi women are more intelligence than chareidi men” stated MK (Yahadut HaTorah) Rav Moshe Gafne to a bar association gathering addressing discrimination against women.
Gafne addressed the bar association’s annual gathering in an Eilat hotel, defending the chareidi tzibur against the recent accusation of gender discrimination and more. Gafne told participants that accusations against the chareidi tzibur were unjustifiable “For I do not know anyone who spits at 12-year-old girls as was the case in Beit Shemesh. Yair Lapid arranged it, and a week later he announced his entry into politics. Chareidim did not spit on the 12-year-old girl. It was an individual”.
“You do not know the feeling that we, the chareidi tzibur lives with? There is a new attack weekly”.
The MK went on to address gender separation on public buses. “In Tokyo for example, if a male mistakenly boards a female bus they begin hitting him since the women don’t want a man bothering them on buses in the overcrowded conditions. If there is an understanding in the chareidi community that men and women sit apart who does this bother? If I am in officers training and a female singer performs, and I quietly request to leave for 2 or 3 minutes, what is the big problem with this?”
“It’s a mazel I was born with a sense of humor for if not, I would be crying over the absolute lack of communication between chareidim and the secular”.
Another speaker was former High Court of Justice President Meir Shamgar, who explained he believes the state erred by permitting segregated buses. “Women in Israel are entitled to do as they please”, expressing his opposition to gender segregation as seen in the chareidi community today.

Gafne speaks for no one but himself.
“is this a chidush”?
Many have complained that this is a real issue in shidduchim and Shalom Bayis issues. Chinuch Habanos is so diverse, including many subjects of importance & interest, and varied after-school activities help to broaden and add to the education of women.

Does the truth hurt
It is no wonder , when the men live off someone else ,
ask the gedolim why this is,,,,,do not expect a truthful answer
We already knew that.
Hmmm…maybe his judgment is based on the dribble he reads here?
“chareidi women are more intelligent than chareidi men”
What’s the Chedush? Women ARE smarter then men, and as soon as men realize it the better their marriage will be.
“Today’s chareidi women are more intelligence than chareidi men”
I don’t know who wrote the above or proofed it, but who ever did seems a bit lacking in ittlegances.
“If there is an understanding in the chareidi community that men and women sit apart who does this bother?”
The difference is that in Japan, the women are separating themselves because the behavior of (some) men. In E”Y, (some) men abuse the women who don’t move/leave.
Different dynamic.
It’s a shame that his valid points are lost in two huge problems with what he says:
1. Noone’s complaining about Chareidi people sitting seperate by choice, and noone wants Chareidim to sit together if they don’t want to. But the busses are forcing that on others, and THAT’s a huge problem. Maybe MK Gafni would propose 3-section busses, mens, womens, and mixed?
2. The attacks in Beit Shemesh did in fact happen, even if the attacks were not done by chareidim that MK Gafni knows or respects. To say that they didn’t happen is an insult to his, and our, intelligence.
