Marking 30 Years Since the Yamit Expulsion

An event marking 30 years since the government of Prime Minister Menachem Begin uprooted the residents and communities of Yamit is being held in Knesset today, Monday, 22 Iyar 5772. The event was organized by the organization dedicated to recording and memorializing the communities of Gush Katif and northern Shomron, which were uprooted by the government of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in 2005.

The organization’s director, Mochi Batar explains that during their 35 years as residents of Gush Katif, they marked this day every year, remembering the Jewish communities of Sinai. The event was held in N’vei Dekalim and today, the connection between the former communities of Sinai and Gush Katif is even stronger.

Knesset Speaker Rivlin and MK Uri Ariel will represent the Knesset at the 30th anniversary event along with Dr. Avshalom Kor.
