President Obama today announced that he now supports same-gender marriage, reversing his longstanding opposition amid growing pressure from the Democratic base and even his own vice president.
In an interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts, the president described his thought process as an “evolution” that led him to this place, based on conversations with his own staff members, openly gay and lesbian service members, and conversations with his wife and own daughters.
“I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married,” Obama told Roberts, in an interview to appear on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Thursday. Excerpts of the interview will air tonight on ABC’s “World News with Diane Sawyer.”
The president stressed that this is a personal position, and that he still supports the concept of states deciding the issue on their own. But he said he’s confident that more Americans will grow comfortable with gays and lesbians getting married, citing his own daughters’ comfort with the concept.

a toiaiva to himself & a destruction to klal yisroel.
embarassing & disgusting.
may he go down deeper in his grave that hes been digging since he became president
How could you put such an article on a “Frum” site!!??? You should be ashamed of yourself. To write such words, and to even mention this topic is a disgrace. This is exactly what the Gedolim are talking about when they speak out against the internet. Your being Oiver Lifnai Iver.
Another wonderful reason to get rid of him on Nov 6!!
well at least he made it easier for the jewish vote to solidify behind him. The reform/conservative yidden can forgive his anti-Israel attitude as long as he’ pro-gay marraige.
big shock!
I guess if obama’s little daughters are ok with it then it must be fine.
Anyone remember the fate of the Greek Empire….
Give that the economy doesn’t look like a good issue to run on, and the situation in Europe suggests it will get worse before it gets betters,it makes sense that he wants another issue to be the “big” one. However yesterday’s referendum in North Carolina (a “swing” state he carried in 2008) suggests that he may have made a big mistake. Several swing states (particularly Virginia, Florida and North Carolina) are likely to be annoyed, and it isn’t clear if any of the other swing states are likely to be enthused by his focus on gay rights. While it will attract money from left wing groups, it may also encourage right wing ones to support Romney with great enthusiasm.
What a PHONEY FRAUD!
He SAYS its because he feels for those of his soldiers who want same sex marriage.
This is no doubt a political decision!
Is this the beginning of the end of morality in the USA?
What do you mean how could they put this on a frum site? This is news. It affects all of us, especially close to election time ( not that I think many people on this site are wavering on their decisions. If its too much then don’t go on the internet.
2. You really need a cup of coffee. Some people on this site have to see why they shouldn’t vote for Obama even if their vote is being bought by the socialist liberal democrat party.
Teshuva2011–grow up please, we’re all adults.
Hey, I’m wondering if you used an internet connection to read the article you so loathe and subsequently post a message about?
There are some so-called “rabbis” who claim the Torah never outlawed toeva. Obviously, Parshas Kedoshim was not part of their syllabus. These shoytas use the middah of chessed inherent in all Yidden to embrace every unworthy, un-Torahdike, ridiculous cause under the sun. Unfortunately, their flock follows their twisted example and will now support Obama again in November. Sad.
Mark Levin, I also need a cup of coffee. I really need one.
How will his support for this lead to the destruction, C’V, of klal Yisroel?
I don’t know if he’s running on this issue or it’s a response to the Biden statement a few days ago–the president may have been forced to make a public statement (Jay Carney’s tap dancing at the press conference was a bit painful to watch). It’s not a good issue to try and run with.
The sentiment of the country, North Carolina not withstanding, has been moving towards acceptance.
The funny thing about the gay marriage issue is that it has little to do with the toeva (the marriage really doesn’t affect that behavior) but with the issues of the relationship: money, estates, purchasing, health care.
Unlike the Missionaries of other religions, we, as a rule, do not force our opinions on others. Legally allowing same gender marriages is in no way condoning their decision, it is merely giving them the legal rights that all married couples enjoy. Ever since NY allowed same gender marriages, my life as a happily married father of 2 has not changed one bit, nor will it change because Obama says its OK.
BTW, in Lawrence v Texas, a case decided in 2003, the Supreme Court struck down all sodomy laws as unconstitutional.
#6, on the contrary, it was yesterday’s results that prompted this move. The NC voters who supported the amendment were mostly black, and he knows he has their vote anyway. But yesterday showed him that he has no chance with the rust belt “bitter clingers”, which means he absolutely has to shore up his support among the young, white, college-educated socially-liberal demographic; this is all about tossing them a bone.
It’s been clear from his first election that he’s in favor of such things, so why is this news 4 years later?
Oh, and Teshuva2011, do you know what lifnei iver is? Unless you grew up in Amish Village and you have no idea what the internet is or what it contains, you’re not an “iver”. And if you can’t handle even such an innocent site such as this, why are you on the web?
The flip flopping race baiting campaigner in chief already said in 1996 when running for state senate in Illinois that he favored same sex marriage so this is nothing new.
Unlike the Missionaries of other religions, we, as a rule, do not force our opinions on others.
Really? וכן ציווה משה רבנו מפי הגבורה, לכוף את כל באי העולם לקבל כל מצוות שנצטווה נוח, וכל מי שלא קיבל, ייהרג.
BTW, in Lawrence v Texas, a case decided in 2003, the Supreme Court struck down all sodomy laws as unconstitutional.
Yes, we all know that; what has it got to do with this topic?
zechaya1:
You wish it were true but, unfortunately you are wrong. The legal acceptance of “gay” “marriage” has a number of ramifications, including more people suddenly realizing they are “gay” and, (here’s where you and everyone come in) more people openly demonstrating their “gay”.
If you’ve ever walked the streets, you would know that non-Jews generally have no problem with being publicly affectionate to their fiance/friend of the opposite gender. It’s bad enough when it’s between man and woman. But when you see a man embracing+more another man, as if this man were his wife, in a public area, it is a new level of depravity. And they obviously don’t care who is around, including kids, as the law just vindicated their lifestyle.
This abomination will eventually make its way into children’s literature, social science textbooks for children of all ages, and much more.
This law has been a terrible mistake for both Jew and Gentile alike, and I hope it is repealed ASAP all across this great nation.
*more people openly demonstrating their “gay” affections in front of anyone who might happen to be there.
zechaya1, this does have to do with us, let’s say someone is in the catering, florist, halls, etc… business and does not want to make the party because, they found out couple is gay, then they can possibly be sued for discrimanation.

I am glad you are still “happily married”. This is not about you or your happy marriage. This is about Right and Wong. This abomination is not only against Jewish values but also against 7 Noahide Laws that obligates us to spread to Goym.
B.T.W will you still happy as you are today if your children choose to marry the same sex in when they grow up in this immoral and confused society?
Today its same gender, tomorrow its person/animals, the next day its pick another Toayva.
Now that a sizable sector of the American population feels that G-d and His rules are passe, how long will it be before people fight for the right to walk the streets sans clothes?
