A 35-year-old chareidi resident of Bnei Brak is suspected of smuggling computers into the country and running a computer repair business while ignoring tax officials. Ramle Magistrate’s Court Justice Liara Frenkel Shifman released the suspect on bail, with restrictions. Customs officials explained to the court that the defendant smuggled laptop computers into the country.
It is alleged that the suspect used the identity numbers of avreichim in kollel, explaining to them if they give him their numbers he will be able to get them financial assistance. In actuality, he used their numbers to smuggle in the computers, albeit without their knowledge.
Authorities searched the suspect’s home last week and found 15 computers. The suspect did not cooperate with investigators, opting to remain silent.
