MK (Yahadut HaTorah) Uri Maklev has called for halting all roadwork being carried out on major vehicular routes leading to Kever Rashbi on Lag B’Omer to avoid additional delays. Maklev explains that tens of thousands begin making their way to Meron on Wednesday night and the flow of visitors to and from the tziyun continued the entire night and Lag B’Omer itself and the suspension of construction along the way can significantly contribute to eliminating unnecessary delays.
Maklev refers to Route 1 (Jerusalem-Tel Aviv Hwy), Route 2 (Coastal Road), Route 4 (Old Tel Aviv-Haifa Road), as well as major northern routes, including Route 65 (Nachal I’ron/Wadi Ara), Route 90 (Jordan Valley Rd./Rechavam Ze’evi Hwy), Route 70 from Yokneam, HaMovil Jct and Golani Jct.
According to the HaMevaser report, as in past years, police will step-up its presence north of Golani Junction, adding that from that point on there is no road construction on Lag B’Omer.
Maklev also wants the suspension in construction to continue into erev Shabbos since many people who will be at Kever Rashbi on Thursday, Lag B’Omer, will be spending Shabbos in the northern area.
