NYC Water Board Approves Seven Percent Rate Hike

City homeowners will soon be seeing their water bill go up, though not as much as it has in recent years. The Water Board today on Friday approved the Department of Environmental Protection’s request for a seven percent rate hike.

That’s the smallest increase in seven years.

The hike will cost the average single family homeowner an extra $62 a year.

DEP officials say the rate hike is needed to cover expenses, unfunded mandates, and debt service payments.

The new rate will go into effect July 1.

  1. This is crazy. My water bill is higher than my gas bill. Home owners are the cash cows for the city. Between the real estate tax hikes and sky rocketing water bills, they have us over a barrel.
