Counterterrorism Chief on bin Laden Controversy: ‘I Don’t Do Politics’

President Barack Obama’s top counterterrorism adviser, John Brennan, declined to discuss how the killing of Osama bin Laden a year ago might factor into the election.

“I don’t do politics: I’m not a Democrat, I’m not a Republican,” Mr. Brennan said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.” He similarly declined to answer on two other Sunday-morning television shows.

Mr. Brennan said the president made the right decision to bring down Osama bin Laden, but he declined to comment on an Obama campaign advertisement, criticized by some, that suggested Mitt Romney might not have made the same decision.

“All that I know is that the president made the decision when he was given the opportunity to make a gutsy decision,” Mr. Brennan said in remarks broadcast Sunday.

The counterterrorism adviser said there have been no credible threats of an anniversary attack to mark the death of bin Laden, but he is remaining vigilant.

“We’re not going to let down our guard,” he said on “Fox News Sunday.”

Mr. Brennan also said that he had confidence in the investigation into the U.S. Secret Service scandal that started in Cartagena, Colombia.

“Mark Sullivan, the director of the Secret Service, has taken very aggressive and speedy action,” Mr. Brennan said.

Even if you are right, the President and his advisers made the right decision to eliminate OBL.

On the other hand, how does the Obama campaign claim that Mitt Romney wouldn’t have done the same.

  2. Here’s the truth about 0bama’s so-called “gutsy call”. It was in fact a cowardly dodge, in which Obama laid the groundwork to blame the military if the raid went wrong.
