A second battery of Patriot missiles was set in place in Haifa in proximity to Haifa University. The move comes as part of the military’s overall preparation for future conflicts with its neighbors, including Hizbullah forces operating in southern Lebanon.

Patriot missiles made their introduction into Israel in the 1991 First Gulf War, when they responded to Scud missiles fired into Israel from Iraq. Patriot batteries were also stationed in Haifa during the Second Lebanon War.
