IDF Personnel Chief Wants to Toughen Draft Exemptions for Women

Chief of IDF Personnel Branch Major-General Orna Barvibai met with law students in the Shaare Mishpat College and spoke of the need to introduce legislation that will make it increasingly difficult for one to obtain a draft deferment. She spoke specifically of the females who take advantage of the hole in the current laws, stating they can declare they are frum and they are out. She feels it is too simple and it must be amended.

Interestingly, Barvibai explained that there appears to be an equal number of females from the religious sector who serve in the IDF and non religious females who do not.

  1. In the interests off fairness however, Orna will personaly make sure that the female draftees will be forced to listen to female singers just like the male soldiers. “We believe in forcing secularism down soldiers throat no matter what their gender” she is about to announce under the gener IDF’s rules of equal opportunity religious harasment. Orna will be further quoted as saying: “While I don’t pretend to understand this religious stuff at all, we wish to be 100% unfair to everyone alike”.

  2. Why not abolish conscription of women? No other country drafts women. Eliminating conscription, and creating an option for female soldiers to resign if sexually harassed, would solve a lot of problems (ordering all soldiers to follow the laws of yihud and nigiah, and an American style no fraternization rule with soldiers of unequal rank, etc., would solve most of the problem).

  3. Why not abolish conscription altogether? Israel can easily get enough voluntary recruits for its genuine defense needs. Conscription exists primarily for political and financial purposes.
