The nonfeasance by police smells of a political agenda and MK (Icud HaLeumi) Prof. Aryeh Eldad is pointing a finger of blame at police for the deteriorating security situation in that area of Yerushalayim. Eldad cites the daily attacks against mispallalim who try making their way to the beis chaim, as well as the residents of the community of Maale Zeitim, located in the heart of Har HaZeisim. The latest attack occurred during the predawn hours Monday, 24 Nissan 5772, when seven firebombs were hurled at homes in Maale Zeitim. Security personnel fired in the air to scare off the attackers who threat the incendiary devices at residential apartments.

Eldad feels the police commander of Jerusalem should have been dismissed a long time ago due to his incompetence, sending a letter to Minister of Public Security Yitzchak Aharonovich, who is in charge of Israel Police. Eldad is calling for revamping open fire orders, explaining a firebomb is no less deadly a weapon than a gun, and the response must be an appropriate one.
