Macy’s flagship store in Herald Square was evacuated Wednesday afternoon after a fire erupted in the basement.
FDNY officials say there are no reports of injuries.
The call for the fire came in at about 3:30 p.m., and the main fire had been knocked down by 4 p.m.
It started in the cellar and spread to a contained area on the first floor, according to an FDNY official at the scene.
Employees were let back into the store at about 4:30 p.m., and customers would be allowed in after that, the FDNY said.
There was no immediate word on the cause.
