NYC: DEP Set To Float Seven Percent Water Rate Hike

New Yorkers could soon get hosed by another water rate hike. The Department of Environmental Protection is expected to ask the Water Board today for a seven percent rate hike.

The increase would be the smallest in seven years, but water rates have gone up 78 percent since 2005.

If the increase is approved, the water bill for a typical single-family home would go up by about $62 a year.

The water board is made up of members appointed by the mayor.
