Members of the City Council showed support for the family of slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin by wearing hooded sweatshirts on the steps of City Hall on Wednesday. The hoodie-wearing politicians also carried bags of Skittles and cans of iced tea, which is what Martin had on him when he was shot and killed by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman.
Zimmerman claims he fired in self-defense and has not been charged.
“I hope it sends an incredibly clear message to all of the authorities in Florida that what happened on February 26 was outrageous,” said City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
The council members are set to vote on a resolution condemning the killing and what they say was an inadequate investigation.
On Tuesday, Martin’s parents spoke at a Capitol Hill forum on racial profiling, hate crimes and the “Stand Your Ground” law that is protecting Zimmerman.
Several members of Congress have called for the case to be investigated as a hate crime, while the U.S. Justice Department has opened a civil rights investigation.

Oy vey what a mess
let these clowns in city council worry about NYC and not condemnations in Florida!!!!!!!!!
may i suggest to all you do gooder liberals that typical well mannered and well behaved people who dont try to be different and do not hang out with the wrong people in the wrong places at the wrong times of day do not generally run into problems! in other words fit the mold and dress not like a “hood”lum and speak with something other than 4 letter words etc and chances are you wont have these problems
Takingabreak: i dont know the actual details in this story, but I do know that what you said is not true. there actually were people who were proper citizens, did not bother anyone, and basically did all the right things, and ended up being a victim of police brutality.
How about this Kosherman: 1933…let these clowns in Washington worry about the USA and not condemnations in Germany!!!!!!!!!
And this for takingabreak – this kid was walking to his father’s house from a 7-11 convenience store; your recitation of the “facts” is offensively ignorant, if not deliberately intolerant and racist. I can only imagine how your logic would flip had it been a Yid shot by a Black in a Black neighborhood.
YonasonW, what was he doing lurking up near the building, and not on the sidewalk? He was nowhere near his father’s girlfriend’s home.
Correction: I have since seen a map showing where the father’s girlfriend’s house is, and it seems that he was on a logical path from the gate to her house. Still, when Zimmerman asked him what he was doing he should have answered politely and explained, not attacked him.
