Attempts to reach Mr. Osbon, who is a 12-year company employee at JetBlue, and his family for comment have been unsuccessful.
Earlier Wednesday, JetBlue Chief Executive Dave Barger told NBC’s “Today” show that he has known Mr. Osbon “personally for a long period of time and there’s been no indication of this at all in the past.” When asked if there have been complaints or past issues regarding Mr. Osbon in his 12 years with JetBlue, Mr. Barger simply called him a “consummate professional.”
Mr. Barger said Mr. Osbon “is now in the hands of medical care, obviously, under the custody of the FBI.”
JetBlue said that until the past few months, Mr. Osbon served on the airline’s “flight standards” team as a line-check airman, meaning he helped train other pilots and assessed their flying skills and judgment. It isn’t clear why he was taken off that assignment.
