The Republican Jewish Coalition is calling on President Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod to apologize for “his offensive language.”
This stems from comments Axelrod made via twitter Monday morning about the upcoming Illinois Republican presidential primary election.
The tweet starts off as straight forward political handicapping “With a 7-to-1 spending edge, hard to see Mitt not rolling in IL tomorrow. You can’t turn on the TV without seeing 2 or 3 neg ads on Santo.” The second sentence is what the RJC calls Holocaust and Nazi imagery. “The Mittzkrieg in Illinois isn’t terribly inspiring, so turnout may lag. But the sheer volume probably has been grindingly effective.”
“At a time when there is so much talk about the need for civility in political discourse, it is disturbing to see President Obama’s top campaign advisor casually throw Nazi imagery around in reference to a Republican candidate for President,” read a statement from the RJC released on Monday. “Holocaust and Nazi imagery are always inappropriate in the political arena. Axelrod should apologize for his offensive language.”
Blitzkrieg means “lightning war.” It was a military tactic based on speed and surprise and was first used by the Germans in World War Two.

I heard a recorded shiur of HaRav Shlomo Freifeld z”l where he tought that “we can learn from the Germans how to approach our learning (and maybe he said avodas HaShem as well). The Germans had a tactic called the blitzkrieg . . .” I think the Republicans are grasping at straws with this one. I am voting Republican/Conservative, etc., but NOT because of Axelrod’s poor choice of words.
This is what they are worried about when a gunman shoots up a jewish school?!

The word “blitzkrieg” has nothing to do with the Holocaust. It was coined to refer to the invasion of Poland and later was used in reference to the bombings of England.
The RJC should stop being so super-sensitive. As Harry Truman said, if you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen.
“Mittzkrieg!” This gets you all bent out of shape! Such thin skins for plebians who regularly call Obama a Muslim, deliberately “confuse” his name with Osama and question his loyalty as an American or a westerner…
BESIDES…blitzkrieg or “lightening war” is not a Nazi word…it is a German military term for fast moving armored warfare, where large infantry formations are left behind as armor and light infantry advance at high speed. True, the WWII Wermacht largely invented it…but today it is a universal military tactic.
Mittkrieg is very on-point….Lighten up you partisan lemmings.
