There were two volleys of katyusha rockets fired from Gaza towards Beersheva. In the first attack, it appears one rocket was intercepted and the second crashed down on a street in a residential area.
The second round of rockets was fired a short time later. The Iron Dome seems to have hit the incoming rocket, but it did not succeed in totally destroying it. Fragments landed in Beersheva as well, causing damage to a school building which was closed due to the rocket fire.
Channel 2 News on the scene reports an unexploded katyusha landed as well and people are being distanced from the area. It is unclear just how many rockets were involved in the second wave. There is a great deal of confusion surrounding reports.
Magen David Adom Southern District Commander Yitzchak Alfasi reports treating five hysteria patients since the morning hours, including a pregnant woman. In addition, one person “Who suffered an attack” is being transported to Soroka Medical Center. Alfasi did not specify what type of attack in his extremely vague report.
