Federal authorities have brought fraud charges against the owners of a New York City driving school attended by a bus driver involved in a deadly crash last year in Virginia.
A criminal complaint filed Thursday accuses the school of helping an undercover agent cheat on a commercial license exam by using a jacket outfitted with a hidden camera. The complaint says the Mandarin-speaking agent had told the owners he did not speak English to take the test.
Authorities say that more than 720 associated with the school have taken the same test since January 2010. One was the driver of a bus that crashed last May en route from North Carolina to New York. Four passengers died.
There’s no allegation the driver cheated. He’s been charged with manslaughter.
