Venhafoch Hu: North Korea Agrees to Suspend Nuclear Activities, US Says

North Korea has agreed to suspend uranium enrichment and put a moratorium on nuclear and long-range missile tests, the U.S. State Department announced Wednesday.

State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland also said the North has agreed to allow International Atomic Energy Inspectors to verify and monitor the moratorium on uranium enrichment and confirm disablement of its nuclear reactor at Yongbyon.

“To improve the atmosphere for dialogue and demonstrate its commitment to denuclearization, the DPRK has agreed to implement a moratorium on long-range missile launches, nuclear tests and nuclear activities at Yongbyon, including uranium enrichment activities. The DPRK has also agreed to the return of IAEA inspectors to verify and monitor the moratorium on uranium enrichment activities at Yongbyon and confirm the disablement of the 5-MW reactor and associated facilities,” Nuland said.

She said the U.S. will meet with North Korea to finalize details for a proposed package of 240,000 metric tons of food aid.

  1. What a scam. They are using us to get their food aid and will go right back to their nuclear program once they get what they want from US. Enough of this garbage of rewarding bad guys without first seeing a significant change from their side. We have to stop this giving money to all of our enemies. We are bankrupt and it’s only getting worse.

  2. And how is this agreement different from the last agreement they made, negotiated by Jimmy Carter? That one, as we all know, was never worth the paper it was written on. They never kept it for even a day. So why would anyone believe this one?
