With the 20th anniversary of the bombing attack against the Israeli Embassy in Argentina approaching, bereaved families are planning to visit in two weeks to take part in the memorial ceremony.
The attack on the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires was carried out on March 17, 1992. 29 civilians were killed in the attack and 242 people were wounded.
A pickup truck driven by a suicide bomber and laden with explosives smashed into the front of the Israeli Embassy located on the corner of Arroyo and Suipacha, and detonated. The embassy, a Catholic church, and a nearby school building were destroyed. Four Israelis died, but most of the victims were Argentine civilians, many of them children.
The Islamic Jihad and Hizbullah boasted responsibility, and Israel is planning to use the memorial and recent attacks against Israeli diplomatic facilities around the world to remind the international community of the threats posed by Iran and other members of the Evil Axis nations. Diplomatic missions worldwide remain on high alert against attacks from Iran or allies of the terror regime.
A public kabolas shabbos is planned at the site in which survivors and their families plan to attend.
The attack remains an ‘open wound’ for Israel as the terrorists responsible were never apprehended.
