A Brooklyn lawmaker wants police officers to hand out a business card every time they stop and frisk someone.
City Councilman Jumaane Williams plans to introduce a bill next week requiring New York City Police Department officers to hand out cards with their name, rank and unit.
Williams says the measure would help eliminate some of the mistrust of police officers.
The bill would also bar profiling of minorities and would require officers to tell a target they have the right to refuse a search.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says the NYPD already issues cards explaining the stop and frisk policy, though officers are not required to give them out.
Figures released by the department last week show 87 percent of those who were searched by cops were black or Hispanic.
Supporters say more than 8,000 weapons have been taken off the street as a result of these searches.

I see nothing wrong with the actions of the NYPD here. Then again i also have no problem with racial profiling at airports, i am a realist. I think if anything, the fact that 87% of those stopped and frisked were black or Hispanic, should be troubling for those minority groups, and that they should work to better their own communities and people. NYPD needs to be realistic, they do their research, they target those most likely to pose a threat. As far as i am concerned, this just proves that they are doing a wonderful job. Keep up the good work.
And 100% of the weapons found were on black and hispanic males.
