The Shas-affiliated Yom L’Yom newspaper quotes party leader and Deputy Prime Minister/Interior Minister Eli Yishai as stating that despite the High Court of Justice, the Tal Law will be extended for another year when it expires on August 1, 2012. Yishai explained that there simply is insufficient time to legislate a new law to circumvent the court’s decision. He did not detail how they extend the law in defiance of the High Court’s ruling.
The court’s ruling seems to moving chareidi parties to unite, and it appears that Shas and Yahadut HaTorah are taking steps to cooperate towards forming a bloc that will compel the coalition to act in line with their agenda for fearing of losing the majority and the government falling.
