Back in November of last year, Asher Dahan, the suspect in the murder of Rabbi Elazar Abuchatzera, the Baba Elazar ZT”L was sent to undergo psychiatric evaluation to determine if he is mentally sound to stand trial.
Today, Sunday 26 Shevat 5772, he was officially declared mentally sound and he will stand trial for the stabbing death of the tzaddik. Despite the decision of mental health experts, Dahan’s attorney told the court his client suffers from mental illness for at least 15 years and therefore, he should not be held accountable for his actions.
Dahan entered the room of the late tzaddik in the summer of 2011 and allegedly stabbed him to death. He has been in custody since and has undergone numerous evaluations to determine his mental status.
