With the alarming number of death and injuries on Israel’s roadways annually, Israel Police will be outfitted with state-of-the-art laser speed guns, the Lasertech Ultralyte, which police stress are capable of reading the speed of vehicles more accurately, using new technology.
Officials indicate that a summons issued as a result of the use of this device will not easily be overturned in a court of law as was the case with older models. The gun can measure and record a vehicle’s speed 0.3 seconds and it can record a vehicle’s speed from a distance of 600 meters, about twice the distance than with current laser guns.
Each laser gun costs “several thousand dollars” and Israel Police is planning to purchase “hundreds”.
