A former border policeman was sentenced to six months probation and 300 hours of community service by the Kfar Saba Magistrate’s Court following his conviction of stealing money from a police station tzedaka box. He stole 200 NIS from the pushke located in a police station shul.
The former policeman was photographed in the act three years ago, leading to his conviction. During questioning, he admitted to ten other occurrences in which he took tzedaka money. He was compelled to resign from the department after 21 years of service as a result.
During his trial, which led to the plea bargain agreement, the retired officer admitted he was ashamed of his actions which he attributed to his financial distress caused by his divorce. He admitted to the severity of his actions and expressed remorse.
