Bogus callers posing as police officers, security experts and government officials are targeting the elderly in North West London in order to gain security information.
Several residents have reported receiving calls from people claiming to be from the Home Office asking about any security devices they have installed to police to East Barnet and Hale Safer Neighbourhood teams.
A resident contacted the East Barnet safer neighbourhood team after a caller, who knew her name, asked if she would consider having an alarm installed. The caller even offered to arrange for two police officers to visit her home to give advise on alarms and point out security weaknesses.
All the calls reported were to elderly residents, and in all cases the number was withheld.
Anyone who suspects they are being targeted by these bogus callers should contact the Police non-emergency number, by dialling 101.
