Petition Seeks Appointment of Non-Frum ‘Rabbi’ in Yerushalayim

The Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC) affiliated with the Reform Movement has filed suit in the High Court of Justice together with the Conservative and Reform Movement rabbis and members seeking to compel the appointment of a ‘rabbi’ affiliated with the alternative streams of Judaism to a post in the capital.

The petitioners explained to the court that while all the taxpayers are flipping the bill for the civil service rabbonim, only the Orthodox are served and while Jerusalem’s majority is non—Orthodox, residents are forced to accept only Orthodox rabbis.

Petitioners have singled out the capital because there are so many neighborhood rabbinical posts, 33, the most of any city in the county. The petition rejects the fact that a rabbi must be Orthodox and must be a male, stating these policies are simply discriminatory.

Petitioners are hoping the court will freeze any new appointments pending a verdict in the case.

  1. If the Charedei and Dati Leumi communities can not unite to decide on a Chief Rabbi the reform movement will come out the winners.

  2. It’s time to say LOUD and CLEAR that ‘reform’ and ‘conservative’ (and EVEN ‘orthodox’) are NOT adjectives that can be put in front of Judaism.

HaSh-m gave us ONE Torah, not 3 and not 4.
So, – There is only ONE Judaism, and that is Torah Judaism.

Anything else is NOT Judaism, it’s some made up, watered-down mixture of a variety of philosophies, but it is NOT Judaism.

If these other groups want make up a new name for themselves, maybe Israel will recognize these new religions, BUT Torah observers have the ‘copyright’ on JUDAISM, so my comment to those other groups is…

Perhaps you should contact one of those companies the car manufacturers use to name their new model cars. The name ‘CAMRY’ seems to have worked well for Toyota, maybe that outfit can come up with a good name for you too!

  3. The IRAC is another name for reform movement. The head is a complete rasha. The reform hated Rabbi Khane. ztl since they
were in Florida on tv advertising for conversions $99. and Khane went and brought a goat and ask them to convert the goat. This was done in front of cameras. The leader advertising the conversion said he did not know about it and
stall and Rabbi Khane said the goat even had a beard. In America the reform even do Bark Mitzvahs. Is this what we want in Ir HaKodesh. Send these fakers packing

  4. If readers notice the little sign (from the ‘reforms’) at the top of this article, it says “There’s more than one way to be a Jew”.

    Yes, there are TWO ways.
    1) There’s being a good Jew by accepting Torah being given by HaSh-m, and living your life according to it’s teachings and laws.
    and…
    2) There’s being a not good Jew by not accepting the Torah and not living your life according to it’s teachings and laws.

Yes, if you were born a Jew, you ARE a JEW regardless of how you live, BUT there is NO OPTION of thinking you can be a GOOD Jew if you do not obey the Torah, simply by calling yourself a ‘reform’ or a ‘conservative’ Jew.

I have met plenty of badly uneducated, uninformed, non-observant Jews who have tried to tell me they ARE good Jews because they are kind, they don’t steal or cheat others, etc. but they don’t HAVE TO keep all those mitzvos BECAUSE they are ‘reform’ (or whatever).

My response to them is that they might be good human beings, but there is a lot more to being a good JEW than just not stealing, etc. They look at me like “Huh,- wha… whaddaya mean?”

VERY VERY sad state of affairs.

The Jewish people need a lot more people in kiruv, and a lot less people spitting or throwing things at others deemed not as frum as you.

  5. The “deformed” are taking advantage of the backlash against the actions of the chareidim (sanctioned by the Eida) to push their agenda.
They hear opportunity knocking at the door and the are opening that door.

“They sowed the wind and now they are going to reap the whirlwind.”

  6. There is NO SUCH THING AS A “NON-FRUM RABBI”.

It’s like saying “Kosher Style” which is like “Pregnant Style” There is no such thing. Either you are or you’re not!

A Rabbi is a person who learns and teaches Hashem’s Torah, our Torah to other Jews and at times to others too.

But if one does not believe that our Torah is Hashem’s word or that it was written by others (as the reform, conservative and other deviant forms of practices which refer to themselves as being Jewish) then he or she can not use the term “Rabbi”

  7. If you have a state religion, than a “rabbi” is whomever or whatever the state says it is. The is what having a sovereign state with a state religion means.

If you don’t want the hilonim being able to decide who or what is a “rabbi”, then you should join the “extreme” hareidi groups that refuse to accept money from the medinah (since he who is paying the fiddler, gets to call the tune). So unless your “rebbe” is someone such as Netanyahu or Livni or Barak or Yachimovich – you need to understand that liability of having civil service rabbis.
