NJ Toll Cheat Violations Down Since Crackdowns

Violations have dropped from 9 percent to 3 percent since photo enforcement began to target toll cheats in the exact change lanes on the Garden State Parkway.

Enforcement began in October, when officials increased the violation fee from $25 to $50.

Officials have collected about $347,000 in tolls and administrative fees as of Jan. 23.

But some motorists say they’re getting notices even after they paid their tolls.

Turnpike Authority spokesman Thomas Feeney tells New Jersey Press Media that officials have waived 10,551 of the 87,120 violation notices issued as of Jan. 23.

Feeney says people get the benefit of the doubt when they call and challenge a notice because the agency is erring on the side of forgiveness.
