Muslim community leaders held a rally Downtown earlier today where they called for the resignation of Police Commissioner Ray Kelly over a controversial film shown to police officers that they say misrepresents Islam.
The Muslim American Civil Liberties Coalition says Kelly’s involvement in the production of the film “The Third Jihad” is an example of the blatant bigotry of the New York City Police Department toward the Muslim Community.
Kelly on Wednesday said he regrets being interviewed for the film, which was apparently shown to an estimated 1,500 officers inside a training facility break room.
The group, along with at least two City Council members, are calling on Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne to step aside, saying he misled the public about the film.
The group is also pushing for an independent investigation.
