NYC: Bus Time App Coming To 2 More Boros

Waiting for the bus is about to get a whole lot easier.

Bus Time — the popular MTA program that lets riders check wait times through their cell phones — will be rolled out in two more boroughs by the end of this year, officials said today.

The transit agency is preparing to add the 21st century solution to the age-old problem of bus stop boredom to the Bronx in the next couple of months.

Another yet-to-be-named borough will get the commute-changing service — which is already being used in Staten Island — by the end of the year.

It is expected to go city-wide by late 2013.

To use the system, riders text the number 511123 with an intersection or a code — available on the MTA website — to see how many stops away the bus is from their location.

Smart phone users can scan a bar code posted at bus stops to see how close their ride is.

Those riders can also pull up a map on their phones that shows them where buses are in the area. That feature is also available on the computers.

  1. “Another yet-to-be-named borough”, it is already being used in Brooklyn (B63), Staten Island (S62), and Manhattan (M34). You disclose that the Bronx will get it, so that only leaves 1 option, unless you want to consider Monsey, Monroe, Flatbush, Boro Park, and Sea Gate the 5 boros.

  2. The israelis should have paid the mta to install the metrocard system on israeli busses and trains instead of the failed rav kav. So sad, I thought israel was a world leader when it comes to technology. The rav kav is a mess
