A 28-year-old police officer committed suicide while on duty on Thursday night in Queens, the police said.
The officer shot himself in the confines of the 111th Precinct. The precinct covers the neighborhoods of Auburndale, Bayside, Douglaston, Fresh Meadows, Hollis Hills and Little Neck.
A police spokesman said only that the shooting occurred outdoors, but YWN has confirmed that the incident location was at 85-22 211th Street.
The officer, whose name was not released as of this report, was pronounced dead at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Rest in Peace my brother…..
Please change the title to “NYPD Officer Commits Suicide While On Duty”
In it’s current form it sounds like the officer friendly fired himself to death.
He doesn’t deserve the same respect of someone who was killed in the line of duty.
OY VEY!
A sad day for New York’s Finest.
@uneeq:
The title “kills himself” is sadly clear.
He may not deserve the same response as someone killed in the line of duty but deserves sympathy.
Suicide is a problem in the first response community.
Ignoring the problem or being judgmental is not the answer–severe depression and suicidal thoughts need treatment.
Pray tell, why not?? Maybe the stresses of the job caused him to do this? That my friend is called LOD….
